Synthesis and Antimicrobial Activity of Some New Derivatives of 6,12-Dihydroindolo[2,1-b]quinazolin-6,12-dione.
-The novel compounds, derivatives of tryptantrine (VIII), are prepared in order either to increase solubility and to study structure-activity relationship. All compounds are tested for antimicrobial activity. The introduction of a salifiable chain at the 2-position bears lack or decrease of the activity. In this group, only compound (IVa) retains activity against Bacillus subtilis. Compounds with the masked 12-carbonyl group [with exception of (XI)] are less active than (VIII), showing the importance of this oxygenated function.
