Highly Diastereoselective Electrophilic Additions to the Vinylcyclopropane Moiety of a Homotropylidene System.

-A study of the diastereoselective TosOH catalyzed addition of AcOH and MeOH to the tetracycle (I) is presented. β-Derivatives, e.g. (III) and (V), are highly prevalent over their α-counterparts, e.g. ( IV). By contrast, the reaction of dichloroketene, generated from chloride (XI), involves only the cyclobutene system of (I). -
