✦ Synopsis

Ethylcrotonates in the Synthesis of 4,4-Disubstituted 3,5-Dicyano-6oxo-1,4,5,6-tetrahydropyridine-2-thiolates. -Michael addition of ethyl crotonate (I) to cyanothioacetamide (II) in the presence of N-methylmorpholine and subsequent in situ cyclization affords the title tetrahydropyridinethiolates as morpholinium salts (IV). The thiolates are readily alkylated as shown for the formation of allylthio derivative (VI).
