Synthesis of (-)-3-Amino-3-deoxyquinic Acid. -The title acid (X) is prepared in nine steps from quinic acid (I) in 14% overall yield. Its importance for the biosynthesis of 3-amino-5-hydroxybenzoic acid, the precursor of mC 7 N-units in ansamycin and mitomycin antibiotics is discussed. -
