Abstract
A cell growth factor protein (insulin) and/or a cellβadhesion protein (fibronectin) were immobilized on surfaceβhydrolyzed poly(methyl methacrylate) membranes. The growth of mouse fibroblast cells STO was accelerated by the immobilized insulin. This acceleration was enhanced by introduction of spacer arms. Coimmobilization of insulin and fibronectin was very effective for the acceleration of cell growth. Β© 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Bovine endothelial cells were cultivated on the surface of polyurethane membranes or tubes immobilized with insulin, transferrin, and/ or collagen, and growth was measured. For the purpose of immobilization, amino groups were introduced on the membranes or tubes by glow-discharge treatment in the pr
Skeletal muscle satellite cells were cultured from mature rats and were treated in vitro with various combinations of transforming growth factor (TGF)-beta, fibroblast growth factor (FGF), and insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-l)~ In serum-free defined medium the following observations were made: TC
Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) at concentrations of 10(-9) to 10(-10) M initiates cell division in both confluent and low density non-dividing 3T3 cells. Four days after addition of EGF to confluent or low density non-dividing 3T3 cells there is a 2- and 5-fold increase, respectively, in cell number.
Recent studies in several neuronal lineages suggest that extrinsic factors such as polypeptide growth factors regulate various stages of neuronal development, from initial commitment of multipotent progenitors to induction of specific gene expression that is characteristic of terminal neuronal diffe
Clonally derived cultures of porcine skeletal muscle satellite cells were developed. The mitogenic effects of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFCF), epidermal growth factor (EGF), insulin-like growth factors (IGF-I and -Ill, and platelet-derived growth factors (PDGF-AA and -BB) were examined. Indivi
