The cathodic reduction in an aprotic medium of ~t-bromopropiophenone produces 1,4-diphenyl-2,3-dimethyl-l,4-butanedione. This product is transformed by dehydration in 2,5-diphenyl-3,4-dimethylfuran. The reduction process is rationalized via anionic intermediates.
