✦ Synopsis
The Ca atom in the title compound, {[Ca(HO 2 CC 6 H 4 OCH 2 -CO 2 ) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ]Á2H 2 O} n , is eight-coordinate. The HO 2 CC 6 H 4 -OCH 2 CO 2 À monoanion binds in a chelating mode; it also functions as a bridge, linking adjacent Ca atoms into a zigzag chain. Hydrogen bonds link the chains into a three-dimensional network. The Ca atom lies on a special position of site symmetry 2.

In the title compound, [Ca(C~8~H~5~O~3~)~2~(H~2~O)~2~]~__n__~, the Ca^II^ atom (site symmetry 2) is eight-coordinated by two bidentate 2-formylbenzoate ligands, two monodentate formylbenzoate ligands and two terminal water molecules. The bridging ligands result in a one-dimensional coordination poly
