✦ Synopsis

Between 1985 and 1990

, we performed 393 suction lipectomies. 76% of these operations were done for aesthetic reasons; and 24% were done for pseudogynecomastia, benign lipomatosis, lipomata and for contouring of scar areas and of flaps. 85% of the patients were satisfied with the postoperative results. The aesthetic complications which occurred were hypertrophic scarring, hyperpigmentation, asymmetry, contour depressions, rippling of the treated area, wrinkling of the skin, and recurrence of the fatty deposits. The only notable surgical complications in this series were nerve lesions, disturbing postoperative bleeding and hematomas. The incidence of these was 4%.
