✦ Synopsis

Abstract

Insulin‐induced lipohypertrophy is common in diabetic patients using highly purified insulin. It is avoidable and when it occurs it is distressing for some patients. The technique of liposuction or suction lipectomy is widely used in aesthetic surgery for body contouring. It has found other roles in plastic and reconstructive surgery, including the thinning of flaps and recontouring of post‐traumatic fat necrosis. We report our experience of its use for the treatment of diabetic lipohypertrophy and illustrate this application with three case reports. It is likely to become a useful treatment in selected patients.
