✦ Synopsis

In the title compound, [Pt(C 10 H 8 N 2 )(C 5 H 6 N 2 ) 2 ][Pt(CN) 4 ]Á-2H 2 O, cations and anions alternate along the a axis, giving a one-dimensional chain of the Magnus green salt type. The electrostatic interactions between the divalent cations and anions, together with the %±% stacking associations between the 2,2 H -bipyridine moieties, contribute to the stabilization of the crystal packing. Two different PtÁ Á ÁPt distances [5.2034 (6) and 4.5599 (6) A Ê ] alternate along the one-dimensional stack.
