✦ Synopsis

The Cd^II^ ion of the title mononuclear complex, [Cd(C~12~H~9~O~2~)~2~(C~7~H~6~N~2~)~2~]·H~2~O, lies on a crystallographic twofold rotation axis and is in a distorted trigonal prismatic coordination enivironment, involving four carboxylate O atoms from two chelating naphthaleneacetate ligands and two N atoms from two benzimidazole ligands. In the crystal structure, intermolecular N—H...O hydrogen bonds and π–π stacking interactions give rise to a one-dimensional chain structure. The solvent water molecule also lies on a crystallographic twofold rotation axis.
