In a discharge flow system O2(1A~) sensitized chemiluminescence has been observed from the two low lying lAg and 11C~ states of $2 in the wavelength re~ion 1.0 to 1.8 ~tm. The hitherto unknown energies of the two states were found to be 5730 -+ 20 crn -1 and 7961 -+ 15 cm -l, respectively. Due to th

✦ Synopsis
Near infrared 02(a r Ad sensitized emissions from the b ' Z+ states of SeO, SeS, and Se2 have been observed in a discharge flow system. Values of loo for the b O+ -+ XI O+ subsystems estunated from the maxima of the unresolved Au = 0 band sequences are 9677 f 15 cm-t, 7794 + 15 cm-', and 7417 f 15 cm -t for Se0 , SeS, and Sez, respectively. A strong decrease In the ratio of the relative mtenaties of the b O* * X2 1 and b O+ + XI 0 subsystems was observed on comparing the three em&on systems (Se0 > SeS > Se& Ln the case of SeS and Sez, (1,O) bands were observed in addition to the u' = 0. u" pagessons. The derived viiratlonal separations m the b * Z+ states of these molecules were ==490 cm-* and J 340 cm-', respectwely. Enusson from SeS (b 1 z+, u' = 0) which IS m near resonance wth 02 (a t Ag. U' = 0) is extremely strong and suggests the posablty that laser action may be achieved m tius system comparable to that obtained in the recently deveIopecI chermcaI 02 (a ' A.# laser.
