β¦ Synopsis
The main objective of this paper is to apply new systems techniques for condensing information that is contained in a reliability data set. These techniques, augmented with the Greedy Algorithm, were used to develop an algorithm for reduced data set reconstruction. The techniques go beyond traditional ones in that there is a potential to make changes to the original data set and evaluate the resulting impact. The behavior of these data sets, undergoing such a change, is measured by an information oriented objective function. Information is added until the reconstructed data set adequately reproduces (i.e., approximates) the original data set. The new techniques are called Reconstructability Analysis (RA). Examples using simulated data illustrate the application of RA, its properties, and the subsequently developed algorithm to minimize reliability type data storage. Also, the paper introduces systems engineers to the RA methods for synthesizing different subsystems performance relations into a common framework.
