Open-ended injection molding is a process that offers control over orientation in short fiber reinforced metal and ceramic matrix composites. By maintaining unidirectional flow through the cavity as solidification proceeds, preferred orientation in the central region is possible. This article discusses the relationship between pressure, flow rate, and radius of the molten zone, which are the three principal variables influencing the orientation pattern.
