✦ Synopsis

Electrospray ionization coupled with Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FTICR) m a s spectrometry has been used to provide infonntion about complete combinatorial libraries of small peptides containing l@-104 components. The fidelity of attempted synthesis steps can be ascertained rapidly, and, when the extremely high resolution FTICR mass spectra are combined with appropriate computer simulation, both diversity and degeneracy of the libraries as synthesized can be assessed.

The ions produced by "'Cf plasma desorption are detected by Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance techniques. Results for CsI and N,N,N-trimethyl-p-aminophenolate iodide show the feasibility of the technique with high resolution (up to 11 000 at m / z 23) and good signal-to-noise ratio (up to 72
