✦ Synopsis

In this paper a relationship between the critical crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) at crack initiation S,, and the stress triaxiality a,,,/6 is derived based on the damage mechanics criterion for ductile fracture, and a modified crack tip parameter 6: and a modified CTOD criterion are proposed. Critical CTOD, &, and newly modified CTOD, a:, are calculated and compared with some relative experimental data. The results show that the calculated 6,, values are in agreement with the measured ones, and the present crack tip parameter 6: may be approximately considered as a material constant independent of specimen geometry and loading condition.

For the voids coalescence type of fracture of elastic-plastic material, the parameter of critical void growth rate and related criterion have been developed by Zheng and Radon. This criterion has an obvious microscopic physical meaning and can be determined by macroscopic method. In the present pape
