## Abstract Monoamine oxidase B metabolizes 1โ€methylโ€4โ€phenylโ€1,2,3,6โ€tetrahydropyridine (MPTP; **1**) first to 1โ€methylโ€4โ€phenylโ€2,3โ€dihydropyridinium salt (MPDP^+^; **5**), and then to 1โ€methylโ€4โ€phenylphridinium salt (MPP^+^; **7**).
