A seal-off valve possessing several advantages for high-vacuum work has been devised by R. J. Richards of the National Bureau of Standards. The valve is designed so that its handle and stem can be readily removed and used with any number of seal-off seats, leaving only the closed valve seat on the e

โฆ Synopsis
Dynamic sealing
power consumption is greatly reduced through the optimization of the friction face width and material selection.
Specific attention to detail, llke surface finish underneath the O-ring and design of the antlrotation system, guarantees an increased service life. Lack of space around the friction faces is often the reason for the rapid failure of the seal through overheating or erosion. A wide circular cavity machined in the seal cover increases the volume of fluid around the seal faces. The seal service life increases accordingly.

The following article reviews test results accumulated on gas lubricated seals for compressors. The influence of various combinations of materials on the operating behaviour of the seals is also analyzed. Figure 1. Single gas seal with low consumption back up seals, type DGS3/150-E1-R
