Reaction of 3‐Dimethylamino‐2,2‐dimethyl‐2__H__‐azirine with Phenyl Isothiocyanate
In contrast to the reactions of 3‐dimethylamino‐2,2‐dimethyl‐2__H__‐azirine (1a) with various isothiocyanates, leading to thiazoline derivatives, the reaction of 1a with phenyl isothiocyanate at room temperature gives 5,5‐dimethyl‐3‐phenyl‐Δ^1^‐imidazolin‐4‐dimethyliminium‐2‐thiolate (9, Scheme 2). The structure of 9 is deduced from spectral data and reactions of this zwitterionic compound (Schemes 2 and 4).
