8,9-Dehydro-2-adamantanone (1) has been shown to be a useful precursor for the synthesis of adamantyl,ly2 protoadamantyl,314 and isotwisty14 derivatives. However, it has not been convenient to employ (1) in synthesis, as the only reported preparation of (1) involves a multi-
