Abstract

We present a simple experimental technique for the fast and accurate determination of the effective cutoff wavelength of the second‐order modes in channel waveguides. The technique is based on a spectral analysis of the output power when the guide is excited by even and odd field patterns alternately with the wavelength. © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. ## Abstract The influence of the ridge position on the cutoff wavelength of the dominant mode in a single‐ridge waveguide is analyzed by the finite‐element method. The cutoff wavelength can be adjusted by changing the ridge dimensions as well as by adjusting its position. More design data are prese
