✦ Synopsis

_Absorption spectra for Cu, Xg and Au atoms isolated in I-I 2, Dz, N2 and CH4 matrices are shown and the matrix in%ence on these spectra is evahated. Unlike the inezt gases, these matrices cause an unusually large crystal field splitting of the metal 2tom n P5,2 level. Distinct differences in the specti for isolation in H2 and D2 are found and discussed_
