Sumnary: A highly efficient and general method for the synthesis of 5-(2-acylethynyl)-2,4dimethoxypyrimidines starting from 2,4-dimethoxy-5-/?r(brimethylsilyl)ethynyl~pyrimidine is described. The 5-(2-acylethynyl)-2,4-dimethoxypyrimidines have b?en converted to 5-(2-acyl-l-iodovinyl) uracils and 5-(2-acylethynyl) uracils.
