✦ Synopsis

Abstract

In this letter, we propose a new microstrip dual mode bandpass filter (BPF) using a 3rd order Sierpinski fractal‐based resonator (SFR). The different order SFRs are generated from the conventional square patch by using an iterative Sierpinski generator method. In this article, a 3rd order SFR is used to design a high performance dual mode BPF due to its miniaturized property. By adding a perturbation element at the corner of the SFR, the dual mode frequency response can be found. A miniature and low insertion dual‐mode BPF centered at 2.4 GHz using the proposed 3rd SFR is designed, fabricated, and characterized to verify the design concept. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
