β¦ Synopsis
A sensitive and rapid method has been developed for studying the interactions of ribonucleotide homopolymers with isolated liver ribosomal subunits. Small amounts of ribosomal subunits are first immobilised on Millipore filters. The homopolymers are then allowed to interact with the ribosomes by slow passage through the filters. Conditions are described under which both the large and the small subunits can bind poly(A) and poly(U) as well as poly(G). The poly(A) and poly(G) binding sites can be shown to be different.
