In the previous communication we reported the synthesis of ureas from aliphatic amines and carbon monoxide using selenium as a catalyst!.
A transient infrared spectrum observed following the photolysis of gas phase W (CO), in the presence of CO is shown to be due to internally excited W (CO): formed by the two-body recombination of W(CO)s and CO. The internal excitation is shown to be predominantly vibrational.
As a part of our continuing studies on the organic selenium chemistry, we reported that ureas can be synthesized by the reaction of carbon monoxide with ammonia or amines in the presence of selenium catalyst and oxygen. 1,2) The formation of ureas in such cases was interpreted as involving the react
