✦ Synopsis

A new derivatization reaction was developed for the charactertization of organic acids by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry in the highly sensitive positive-ion mode, using N,N'-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide and N,N'-dimethylethylenediamine. Suitability of the reaction was demonstrated on different types of organic acids. When selected-ion monitoring was applied, the detection limit was at the low femtomol level.

The identification of polar microcontaminants in surface water is an important issue in environmental analysis. Liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) is frequently applied for this purpose. However, even in combination with tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS), unambiguous identification of th

In this work we describe a micro-electrospray ionization source equipped with an atmospheric pressure external ion shutter. The solenoid-activated shutter prevents the electrospray plume from entering the inlet capillary unless triggered to the 'open' position. When in the 'closed' position, a stabl
