β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
A planar multiband antenna is proposed for mobile communication applications. The antenna performance is achieved by splitting a planar monopole antenna into two radiating elements. The combination of both halves generates the lower band by means of a meandered slot in the left side and rectangular slots in the right side while upper band resonances are, respectively, attained by each of these radiating elements separately. The antenna can be directly printed onto a circuit board at low cost and requires an area of 50 Γ 25 mm^2^. The manufactured antenna is experimentally verified and covers 11 wireless communication bands, namely, GSM850, GSM900, DCS, PCS, IMTβ2000, UMTS, UMTSβ2110, WLAN, ISM/Bluetooth, and WiMAX (2500β2690 MHz and 3400β3600 MHz) with acceptable omnidirectional radiation patterns.
