β¦ Synopsis
A rapid ion-exchange chromatographic method was developed for the separation of tissue ornithine from other amino acids, except lysine, interfering with Chinard's ninhydrin method. The reaction was modified to estimate ornithine in the presence of lysine by reducing the color development time to 20 min and by benzene extraction of the chromogen formed. Chromogens of omithine and lysine have 5201430 nm absorbance ratios of 4 and 1.3, respectively, and this was exploited to correct for lysine interference.

Ethylene glycol is oxidised to formaldehyde by periodate. The formaldehyde is quantitatively converted into a purple coloured compound by chromotropic acid. The colour is measured in a spectrophotometer at 550 nm using standard ethylene glycol in the range of l-10 pg. Chromotropic acid (4,5-dihydro

A method has been developed for the gas chromatographic analysis of lipoic acid in biological samples. The lipoic acid is released from the samples by acid hydrolysis in the presence of the internal standatds 1,2-dithiolane-3-butyric acid and/or 1,2-dithiolane-3caproic acid. After hydrolysis, the li
