The radiative lifetimes Trad of the CO\* (A 'Iii. u' = O-9) states have been dctcrmincd using the CO\* (A 'Iii, u'+ X 'Z\*, u") "comet tail" emission. The CO\* (A 2JIil u') states were populated by 100 CV electrons incident on CO. The lifctimns have been obtained by means of the delayed coincidcncc

✦ Synopsis
A melhod for the measurement of radiative Wetimes in ions is described, in which a uniform electric field exuacts mdiating ions from aviewing field_ Decay curves are obtined by measuring the decrease of light intensity as a function of field strength The method is tested and applied by studying em&ion from the Fz(A 'II,) vibmtional levels u = 6-9, yield-= ing Jifetimes of 1.3 T 0.1 ~1s for u = 6 and l-5 f 0.1 ~5 for v 7-9.
