Abstract
A low‐cost surface‐mount monopole antenna obtained by folding a metallic strip onto a low‐profile square‐disk foam base is presented. With a compact size of 10 × 10 × 2 mm^3^, the antenna can generate two separate wide resonant modes, with the lower mode covering the 2.4‐GHz WLAN band (2400–2484 MHz), and the upper mode covering both of the 5.2‐GHz HIPERLAN band (5150–5350 MHz) and the 5.8‐GHz ISM band (5725–5875 MHz). Good measured antenna gain for operating frequencies across the 2.4/5.2/5.8‐GHz bands is also obtained. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
