β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
The kinetics of iodine dioxide (OIO) reactions with nitric oxide (NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO~2~), and molecular chlorine (Cl~2~) are studied in the gasβphase by cavity ringβdown spectroscopy. The absorption spectrum of OIO is monitored after the laser photodissociation, 266 or 355 nm, of the gaseous mixture, CH~2~I~2~/O~2~/N~2~, which generates OIO through a series of reactions. The secondβorder rate constant of the reaction OIO + NO is determined to be (4.8 Β± 0.9) Γ 10^β12^ cm^3^ molecule^β1^ s^β1^ under 30 Torr of N~2~ diluent at 298 K. We have also measured upper limits for the secondβorder rate constants of OIO with NO~2~ and Cl~2~ to be k < 6 Γ 10^β14^ cm^3^ molecule^β1^ s^β1^ and k < 8 Γ 10^β13^ cm^3^ molecule^β1^ s^β1^, respectively. The termolecular rate constant for the reaction C1 + NO, + M has been measured over the temperature range 264 to 417 K and at pressure 1 to 7 torr in a discharge flow system using atomic chlorine resonance fluorescence at 140 nm to monitor the decay of C1 in an excess of NO,. The results are ky = 9.
The kinetics of the gas phase reactions of NO, with a series of organics have been studied at 295 ? 2 K. It was observed that only 2,3-dimethyl-2-butene and the conjugated dialkenes studied reacted at observable rates, with rate constants which ranged from 1.5 x lo-" cm3 molecule-' s-' for 2,3-dimet
The gas-phase reaction of NO 3 radicals with isoprene was investigated under flow conditions at 298 K in the pressure range 6.8 Ο½ P(mbar) Ο½ 100 using GC-MS/FID, direct MS, and long-path FT-IR spectroscopy as detection techniques. By means of a relative rate method, the rate constant for the primary

The reactions of C1 and Br atoms with HzOz have been studied in the range of 300-350 K using the very-low-pressure-reactor technique. It was found that metathesis to produce HX and H02 is the only significant process (199%). For the reaction of Br 2 Br + HzO2 + HBr + HOz k z (300 K) = 1.3 f 0.45 X a
