Recently Jon Fjeld has criticized Fred Sommers' type theory. 1 Fjeld begins his paper by nicely outlining the reasons other criticisms of Sommers have failed. Fjeld's own criticism avoids these pitfalls, but, for all that, it also is mistaken. At least that is what I shall argue.

Fjeld concentrates his attack on these two theses which are part of Sommers' theory:

Thesis 1: Every individual belongs to some type. Thesis 2: Every category is identical with a union of types included in it.
