## Interference caused by the multiple optical carriers in the ( ) broadband passi¨e optical network BPON is reduced. This is achie¨ed by modulating each multilongitudinal-mode laser diode with a strong sine wa¨e to broaden optical spectral width. The results show that optical interference can be r

✦ Synopsis
conduction loss is relatively high under this circumstance. However, when the groove depth is small, power tends to spread into Region B. Radiation from the evanescent region might be high. Hence the guide height ( H ) should be long enough to retain the energy within the guide.
REMARKS
The mode-matching method itself is very accurate, provided complete waveguide modes are used. However, the complete solution require extensive computer resources. The reason the present analysis is more accurate than the method used in [l] is that incomplete waveguide modes were employed in [l]. The present analysis demonstrated that the MoL is efficient and reliable.
Conclusions
The method of lines has been employed to analyze the dominant mode of rectangular-groove guides. The calculated results agree better with available data in the literature 111.
There seems to be no reason why the developed method cannot be applied to analyze waveguides of different groove shapes.
