✦ Synopsis

Interference caused by the multiple optical carriers in the (

) broadband passi¨e optical network BPON is reduced. This is achie¨ed by modulating each multilongitudinal-mode laser diode with a strong sine wa¨e to broaden optical spectral width. The results show that optical interference can be reduced to be minor, e¨en when the optical spectra of all laser diodes o¨erlap. Thus, the number of the optical carriers in the BPON system can be greatly extended.
