## Abstract A convenient synthesis with analytical monitoring of ^14^Cβcotinine is reported. ^14^CβNicotine was converted into ^14^Cβdibromocotinine hydrobromide perbromide. Debromination, achieved by using Zn dust/acetic acid, resulted in high yields (71%) of ^14^Cβcotinine.
## Abstract A simple and convenient laboratory procedure is described by which hordenine (III), labelled at the carbon residing on the benzene ring, can be synthesized by decarboxylation of 3β [^14^C]βtyrosine (1) and subsequent reductive methylation of the resulting tyramine (II).
