β¦ Synopsis
The reaction of (C,(CH,),)Ti(CHZC6H,), with B(C,F,), in chlorobenzene at 25 "C produces a mixture of [(C,(CH,)5 )Ti(CH,C,H,),] + [B(CH2C6H5)(C6F,),] -(1) and Ti(II1) complexes which have been characterized by NMR and electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy, respectively. Spectroscopic data combined with polymerisation activity measurements suggest that a Ti(II1) complex is the active species in the styrene syndiospecific polymerisation.
