✦ Synopsis
In the title compound, C 19 H 13 NO 5 , the five fused rings are essentially coplanar, while one of the O-Me bonds lies almost perpendicular to that plane. The molecule is stabilized by C-HÁ Á ÁO intermolecular hydrogen bonds, which form zigzag polymeric chains parallel to the b axis.

The title compound, C 19 H 19 N 3 O, crystallizes in the space group P1, with Z H = 2. Weak CÐHÁ Á ÁN, CÐHÁ Á ÁO and CÐ HÁ Á Á% interactions link the molecules into ribbons.
The title compound, C 27 H 20 BrN 3 , is isostructural with the chloro analogue: the molecules are linked by two independent C-HÁ Á Á(arene) hydrogen bonds into chains of edge-fused rings.
