✦ Synopsis

The amount of expansion on exfoliation is determined principally by the parent stage rather than the actual intercalate concentration. The amount of expansion increases with increasing stage of the parent compound before desorption. For the same parent stage, a higher concentration produces a larger expansion.

Stage-n Fe&GICs (n = 2,3) prepared in the standard two-zone method were oxidized galvanostatically in H,SO,. The electrode potential vs. electric quantity curves observed during the treatment and the X-ray powder patterns of the products showed clearly the intercalation of H,SO, into FeCI,-GICs and

This model considers the importance of the nucleation rate, diffusion, and surface reactions and is based on structure determinations by density and stres

The intercalation process of FeCl, and NiClz into the natural graphite flakes with the average layer diameter of 400 pm was discussed on the basis of the chemical compositions of the compounds obtained in either the ternary system of FeCI,-NiCl,-KC1 or the binary system of FeCl,-NiCI, at 400Β°C. The
