✦ Synopsis

Experrmental

studies on laboratory-scale tank reactors to determrne the most effective mixer for a 10 m3 tank reactor under condrtrons of varying viscosity from 1 cp to 2888 poises have bem corned out. Various methods rncludrng decolorrsatron techniques and conductivity measurements were used and a scalrng-up method has been proposed. The best choice appeared to be a screw mixer with four baffles.

## Abstract Chemical and biological fed‐batch stirred tank reactors (FSTRs) are often good candidates for the application of adaptive non‐linear control techniques because in many cases their dynamical models include highly uncertain kinetic parameters. A general unified methodology for the design

Despite favorable thermodynamics, highmolecular weight and low-dispersity polyesters are difficult to synthesize biocatalytically in organic solvents. We have reported previously that the elimination of solvent can improve the kinetics and apparent equilibrium significantly (Chaudhary et al., 1997a)
