✦ Synopsis

A slugging-bed reactor has been used to study the catalytic oxidation of o-xylene Predictions of conversion based on published theoretical reactor models have been compared with the experimental results and it has been found that the model of Raghuraman and Potter suitably modified to account for reaction in the pre-slugging region of the bed gives the closest agreement A further slΔ±ght modification of the model to account for, possibly, reaction on particles inside slugs would however seem to be necessary
