The title compound, C 21 H 18 N 6 S 2 , crystallizes with one halfmolecule in the asymmetric unit; a twofold rotation axis passes through the central C atom. The triazine ring makes a dihedral angle of 10.65 (2) with the benzene ring.
In the crystal structure of the title compound, C 21 H 18 N 6 S 3 ÁH 2 O, the ligands are held together throughstacking interactions and O-HÁ Á ÁN hydrogen bonds involving the water molecule.
Reaction of 2,4,6-tris(4-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine (tpt) with excess nitric acid in an aqueous solution affords the title compound, C~18~H~15~N~6~ ^3+^·3NO~3~ ^−^. The torsion angles between adjacent aromatic rings are much larger than those of neutral tpt. All three pyridine N atoms are protonated.
In the title compound, C 21 H 6 Br 9 N 3 O 3 , the triazine ring is almost perpendicular to the three benzene rings. In the crystal structure, molecules are linked into a three-dimensional framework by C-HÁ Á ÁO interactions.
