✦ Synopsis
The molecule of the title compound, C 16 H 16 N 2 O 2 , is located on a centre of inversion (at the midpoint of the N-N bond), so that only one half of the molecule is crystallographically independent, and it adopts a syn structure with respect to the methoxy group and the aldehyde H atom. The benzene ring and adjacent N atom are coplanar (r.m.s. deviation of 0.017 A for the non-H atoms). The methoxy group deviates from the benzene plane by 0.167 (4) A ˚for the methyl C atom.

The title compound, C 12 H 18 N 2 O 3 , was prepared by the reaction between p-methoxybenzaldehyde and propionylhydrazine. With the exception of the two methyl groups of the i Pr and the H atoms of the OMe group, the molecule is essentially planar. The crystal structure is stabilized by N-HÁ Á ÁO, O
The title compound, C 16 H 14 Cl 2 N 2 , was prepared by the reaction of hydrazine with 2-chloroacetophenone at room temperature. The molecule has C 2 symmetry with the midpoint of the N-N bond lying on the twofold axis.
