✦ Synopsis

Abstract

^195^Pt NMR data are reported for a series of (η^5^‐cyclopentadienyl)trialkylplatinum(IV) complexes. Chemical shift differences are rationalized primarily on the basis of substituent electronic properties. Changes in solvent produce relatively modest changes in chemical shift, and the dependence of the chemical shift on temperature and concentration is sufficiently strong to warrant control of these variables for comparative measurements. An improved synthesis of [IPtMe~3~]~4~ is also described.

## Abstract Various platinum complexes have been studied by ^195^Pt FT NMR. Long range __J__(^31^P^195^Pt) and __J__(^195^Pt^195^Pt) are observed in dinuclear complexes. The value of ^1^__J__(^31^P^195^Pt) in monomeric and dimeric complexes is shown to depend mainly upon the Pt—P bond length.
