The 13C NMR spectra of a series of derivatives of carbazole and azacarbazole (norharmane or 9H-pyrido[3,4-b]indole) are reported. The dependence of 'H and 'T shieldings on molecular geometry is discussed briefly. KEY WORDS'~C NMR Dimeric 8-carbolines Azacarbazoles 9H-Pyrido[3,4-b]indoles Carbazole d

✦ Synopsis
The =C chemical shifts of 30 substituted Sfi,14fi-hydroxysteroids are described and discussed. Substituent chemical shifts for 12a-and 12fi-hydroxy groups were evaluated, and interesting y effects were observed. A correlation is shown to exist between the 'H shits of H-17 and the "C shifts of C-17 for various C-12 substituents. A relationship for the distance of the substituent at C-12 from H-17 in the 14fi,20-lactones was demonstrated, where an increased distance between these atoms is associated with smaller shift differences.
