In this paper, an application of microwave technology for drying or dehydrating foods with high humidity is presented. Characteristics of the microwave dryingrdehydration are discussed, and an actual processing line for a special taro, Bin-lang-yu, was developed. Our experience so far has indicated

✦ Synopsis
Recently, 2-D photonic bandgap reflectors in microstrip technology ha¨e been proposed. Finite-element 3-D electromagnetic simulation shows negligible ¨alues of the fields outside the central row of the periodic pattern. This suggests the use of 1-D patterns to reduce the trans¨ersal size of the reflectors. Simulations and measurements ha¨e been realized, gi¨ing ¨ery similar performance for both 1-D and 2-D structures.
