When the center frequency of a microwa¨e pulse is tuned ( ) across the spectral range of a photonic bandgap PBG structure implemented in microstrip technology, the group delay introduced ¨aries widely from high ¨alues to strikingly small ¨alues that gi¨e rise to superluminal propagation effects. In

✦ Synopsis
We propose a simple and fast fiber grating model for the analysis and synthesis of 1-D photonic bandgap structures consisting of circles etched in the ground plane of microstrip lines. The relationship between the parameters of the photonic bandgap structure and those for an equi¨alent fiber Bragg grating ha¨ing the frequency response of the first shifted to the optical wa¨elength range is described.
