✦ Synopsis

This paper considers the design and implementation of robust multivariable controllers for a compact disc mechanism. The design objective is to achieve good track-following and focusing performance in the presence of track disturbances, external mechanical shocks and structured norm-bounded plant uncertainty. This robust performance problem has been solved in the -framework using the DK-iteration scheme. Limits of implementation necessitate the use of sophisticated model reduction techniques and the use of two parallel digital signal processors.

In this paper we present a new algorithm for solving robust performance problems by /,-synthesis. Convergence properties of the new algorithm are considered and demonstrated by examples. The algorithm, called /Z-K iteration, works by flattening the structured singular value/Z over frequency.

## Abstract Bioadhesive polymers are natural or synthetic materials that can be used for soft tissue repair. The aim of this investigation was to develop an injectable, bioadhesive hydrogel with the potential to serve as a synthetic replacement for the nucleus pulposus of the intervertebral disc or
