Abstract
The pH response in a medium pH range, the alkaline error in 0,1 N and 1,0 N sodium hydroxide, the asymmetry potential, the bulb resistance and the stability of the electromotive force in 1,0 N sodium hydroxide have been determined for glass electrodes using thirteen different electrode glasses of commercially available types. All these electrodes developed ideal pH reponse in a medium pH range. The best electrodes gave an alkaline error of approx. 0,03 and 0,15 pH in 0,1 N and 1,0 N sodium hydroxide respectively at 25°. Because of the drift of the electrode potential in these highly alkaline mediums and because of variations in the history of the electrodes the validity of the concept of definite alkaline errors is somewhat uncertain.
