✦ Synopsis

6‐Thiazolyl‐2‐pyridones, a new class of chelating agents of the bipyridyl type, have been synthesized from the thioamide of 2‐pyridone‐6‐carboxylic acid; the latter has been obtained starting from the acid via the ethyl ester, amide and nitrile.
